August 16, 2006 | 12:00am
More than 15,000 passengers were stranded for almost three hours when lightning struck the overhead cables of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) at its station in Pasig City yesterday morning.
Jinky Jorgio, LRT Authority (LRTA) public relations officer, said line ceased operations from the Santolan station in Pasig City to the Katipunan station in Quezon City from 8:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Jorgio said operations from the Anonas station in Quezon City to the Recto station were not affected by the incident.
Because of the breakdown, the LRTA lost some P210,000 in revenue.
Full operations resumed at 11 a.m. after workers repaired the damaged system. No passenger was hurt during the incident.
The LRTA has been upgrading a grounding system of the railway in order to avoid similar incidents.
