Former congressman hurt in Makati road mishap

- Michael Punongbayan -
Former Pangasinan Rep. Ranjit Shahani was hurt after his car figured in a head-on collision with a van in Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City last Thursday night.

The 44-year-old Shahani, son of former senator Leticia Shahani, was rushed to the Ospital ng Makati (Osmak), where he was treated for minor injuries.

Victoriano Mongcal, the driver of the Mitsubishi L-300 van (UJC-283), and his passengers, Richard Roquia, 34, and Jose Silab, 52, were also hurt in the collision and taken to the same hospital.

The Makati Traffic Enforcement Unit (MTEU) said the accident happened at around 9 p.m. on Metropolitan Avenue in Barangay Bel-Air.

Shahani, driving a black Mitsubishi Lancer (WTG-321), was cruising on the westbound lane when his vehicle hit the gutter.

The car lost control and swerved to the left, crossing over to the opposite lane and ramming the approaching van.

Osmak rescue personnel rushed to the area upon learning the incident and brought all four to the hospital.

Shahani’s mother visited him before he was transferred to a private hospital.
