The body of one of the five inmates who escaped from the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP) last Tuesday was recovered yesterday by a search team dispatched by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
BuCor Director Vicente Vinarao said inmate Arvic Valentino was found dead by the NBP recovery team, led by Prison Guard 3 Arturo Justo, at around 4 p.m. on a grassy lot near a bridge leading to the Medium Security Compound.
Vinarao said Valentino was wounded when he escaped with four other inmates. One of the three prison guards escorting them managed to shoot him as they fled.
Prior to their escape, Valentino, William Osoteo, Raul Guimba, Alex Panida and Jojo Punzalan were taken to the prison hospital located inside the Maximum Security Compound. The inmates were on board a multi-cab ambulance on the way back to their dormitory when one of them stabbed one of the escorts.
