Initially, some 1,000 clean and green volunteers were mobilized to boost the city’s landscaping and beautification project.
"Everyday is a clean-up day. We see to it that our city, which we proudly call our home, is clean and environmentally safe to live on," Aguilar said.
She urged residents to help in keeping the city clean and green through proper waste segregation and waste management.
Earlier, the Las Piñas City government has enjoined fastfood chains and restaurants to participate in its waste segregation campaign.
Aguilar has also directed the city’s Environmental and Sanitation Center to monitor the city’s 20 barangays.
"I also ordered a citywide clean-up operation and declogging of drainage and canals not only to clear the waterways of wastes but to protect residents especially children from diseases like dengue, especially during the rainy season," she added.
Las Piñas is a United Nations Environmental Program awardee and was included in the Prestigious Global 500 Roll of Honor for Environmental Achievement held in Adelaide, Australia in 2000.
The city was also adjudged as Metro Manila’s cleanest and greenest city from 1997 to 1999. — Rhodina Villanueva
