6,472 Makati job seekers hired in first half of 2006

For the first six months of 2006, some 6,472 job seekers were hired by local and multinational companies through the job placement program of Makati City’s Public Employment Services Office (PESO).

PESO said the weekly mini-job fairs it has organized as part of the city’s continuing efforts to provide residents with opportunities to get employed, contributed to the residents’ successful search for jobs.

In a report to Mayor Jejomar Binay, PESO said it has assisted 1,435 successful applicants through its Mini Job Fair project, 1,799 applicants through its regular job placement program, and 1,711 applicants through the Makati Day Mega Job Fair. Likewise, the PESO has also assisted 1,527 applicants during the first international job fair held last April.

Binay said the success of the PESO in getting the participation of multinational companies and different department stores as well as food chains, manpower agencies and specialty shops in its programs guarantees that Makati residents are given first priority when filling up their manpower requirements.

"The business sector and other manpower agencies in Makati have been very supportive of our programs to provide job opportunities for our constituents, and the city government has been very grateful for their support," he said.

Binay also encouraged all the residents to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the city government through the programs of the Makati PESO.
