BF homeowners launch signature drive for water

- Rhodina Villanueva -
Members of the BF Homeowners’ Association in Parañaque have launched a signature drive aimed at convincing subdivision developers to allow the city government to take charge in solving the water supply problem and facilitate the entry of Maynilad Water Services Inc.

Nelson Lacambra, spokesman of Parañaque Mayor Florencio Bernabe, said more than 1,000 members of the homeowners’ association have signed up in the campaign.

"They are targeting signatures from at least half of the 10,000 members. After which, they will send a letter, together with the signatures, to subdivision developers," he said.

Diana Quiros, head of city’s Homeowners Affairs Office, said the association is petitioning subdivision developers to allow City Hall to facilitate the entry of Maynilad.

City administrator Noli Aldip earlier met with officials of Maynilad, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System and the National Water Resources Board.

He said one possible solution to the water crisis in the subdivision is for homeowners to ask subdivision developers to allow the local government to intervene in areas where pipelines currently exist.

Aldip was assigned as chairman of the water crisis committee that will find ways to mitigate a water shortage problem not only in BF Homes, but in other barangays with water supply problems.

Jesus Matubis Jr. of Maynilad said their is sufficient supply that can diverted to Barangay BF, provided they are allowed to enter the subdivision and set up the infrastructure.

He added that the water supply system of BF Waterworks, a company being operated by subdivision developers, has deteriorated over the years and is no longer a viable provider.

Residents of BF Homes currently depend on water delivery service by private companies after pumps and deep wells in the area had gone dry.

Power supply to the subdivision’s water pumps was cut off after the former water distributor in the area reportedly failed to pay bills amounting to P41 million.
