The recognition was given during the closing ceremony of this years National ICT Month celebration held at the grand ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Galleria, Quezon City.
CICT chairman Ramon Sales, commissioner Dondi Mapa, former chairman Virgilio Peña and Trade and Industry Undersecretary Carissa Cruz presented the award.
The award was received on behalf of Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. by Council majority floorleader Ariel Inton and assistant majority floorleader Dante de Guzman.
The first "Philippine Cyberservices Pioneers Awards" was organized in cooperation with Computerworld Philippines and Business Process Outsourcing of the Phils. (BPAP).
Other companies and individuals that laid the groundwork for IT-enabled services in the country were given their due recognition. The award seeks to recognize both foreign and local IT-enabled services and business process outsourcing (BPO) service providers that have pioneered cyberservices in the country.
The Quezon City government was cited for hosting the very first IT park in the country, thereby positioning the country as a global hub for ICT services; for the citys compliance to the Electronic Commerce Act, showcasing an outstanding example of e-governance and for creating an information-friendly environment that cultivated a strong synergy between the government and private sector; and for pioneering the creation of interactive business registry databank.
The Eastwood City Cyberpark was cited for building, creating and developing the very first IT park in the country.
Industry pioneers in the various e-services were cited in the field of animation, software development, medical transcription and BPO.
The ceremony was held in cooperation with Quezon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Computerworld Philippines and was hosted by Computer Associates, Globe Telecom and Media Gateway.
