Some P10 million worth of property went up in smoke after a fire razed a two-storey house owned by former Bacoor, Cavite Vice Mayor Edwin Malvar in Makati City yesterday.
Reports said the house, located at 29 San Martin street, Magallanes Village, was gutted in a two-hour blaze which has initially been blamed on faulty electrical wiring.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Samuel Guzman said the house was made of semi-concrete materials at the ground floor but the second level was mostly made of wood, making the same highly combustible.
According to the investigator, the fire started at around 2 p.m. The blaze reached the second alarm before it was finally put out 10 minutes later.
Probers said initial inspections reveal that the fire may have originated at the first floor where the kitchen was located.
Guzman said two maids and the family driver were the only people in the house when the fire broke out. They were unhurt.
One fireman suffered lacerations in the hands while a Makati Rescue team member sustained a fracture on the left wrist while trying to put out the fire.
Guzman said the house was insured and the owner himself was a businessman who also owns an insurance company. Michael Punongbayan
