Taguig government, Ayala forge pact on internet access in schools

The Taguig City government has inked an agreement with the Ayala Foundation to provide internet connectivity to the city’s 11 public high schools.

Councilor A.P. Bartolome, chairman of the City Council’s education committee said the agreement is part of Ayala Foundation’s Gearing Up Internet Literacy and Access for Students (GILAS) project.

The high schools to have access to the internet are Western Bicutan National High School, Bagumbayan National High School, Gen. Ricardo Papa Sr. High School Main and Annex, Taguig Science High School, Taguig National High School, Maria Asuncion R. Tiñga Memorial High School, Tipas National High School, Upper Bicutan National High School and the Taguig-Pateros Science and Technology High School.

Innove Communications, a subsidiary of Globe Telecom will provide the schools with free internet connection for the first year.

"This is a great leap forward as our high-school students in Taguig will have access to the wealth of information the internet provides," Bartolome said.

The memorandum of agreement was signed by Mayor Freddie Tiñga and Luigi Bernas, GILAS director.

Last year, Taguig started to adopt Apple technology and education solutions for the Taguig Science High School, with the vision of transforming it into the leading science high school in the country. Rhodina Villanueva
