The San Juan police warned residents against using dirty water on the commuting public as the municipality celebrates the feast of St. John the Baptist.
San Juan Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito directed police chief Superintendent Rodelio Jocson to see to it that todays celebration would be peaceful and orderly.
In his report to Ejercito, Jocson said he has formed a 14-man team tasked to arrest residents caught throwing hard objects and dirty water on people riding public transportation.
"The fiesta celebration last year was peaceful and we aim to make it two years in a row. We are appealing to local residents to follow ground rules so they would not spend the next few days in jail," Jocson said in an interview.
San Juan is famous for its celebration of the feast of their patron, St. John the Baptist. Locals celebrate it by getting everyone in the streets wet with water as is done in baptism.
The entire San Juan police force has been mobilized and deployed to major thoroughfares, especially along Aurora Boulevard, where most public utility vehicles pass.
"Our police forces are deployed in the streets until the celebration lapses at 12 noon," said Jocson.
Jocson said they are also rerouting traffic starting 6 a.m. today so commuters would not get caught in heavy traffic during the festivities.
He said N. Domingo street would be closed to all vehicular traffic from the corner of F. Blumentritt up to the corner of H. Lozada.
Jocson advised all buses and trucks coming from Ortigas Avenue and the northern part of Santolan Road bound for Manila to take Granada street in Quezon City to turn right to N. Domingo then proceed to Tuscany street then turn left to Aurora Boulevard to their destination.
Meanwhile, buses and trucks coming from Manila via Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard should go straight to Aurora turn right to Gilmore street, drive straight to Granada then to Ortigas or Santolan Road to their destination.
All private vehicles, coming from Ortigas and north of Santolan Road bound to the San Juan town proper should take Santolan Road, then turn right to M. Paterno street then left to N. Domingo and right to G. Reyes street, left to Jose Gil street, right to F. Blumentritt then left to N. Domingo to their destination.
Private vehicles coming from P. Guevarra bound to the town proper should take Pinaglabanan Road, left to Atty. Mendoza street, right to H. Lozada to their destination.
They can could also take Jose Gil, turn right to F. Blumentritt, left to Arellano, right to Pinaglabanan Road to their destination. Non Alquitran
