Outstanding Manilans to be honored

Manila Mayor Lito Atienza will lead city and residents in paying tribute to this years Outstanding Manilans during a testimonial dinner at the Centennial Hall of the historic Manila Hotel tonight.
The conferring of the Outstanding Manilan Award, which is an annual undertaking of the city of Manila and is part of the Araw ng Maynila celebrations, seeks to give recognition to men and women who were born, lived or studied in the city and whose achievements in their chosen profession or vocation have contributed to the developments and promotion of Manila.
The guest of honor and speaker for the ceremony is Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno.
The awardees for this year are Hon. Fidel V. Ramos for Public Service and Global Diplomacy; Aureo Alonzo for Fashion and Design; Federico Hizon ffor International Journalism; Rev. Fr. Tamerlane Lana for Spiritual Leadership; Dominique Lemay for Humanitarian Service; Carlos "Caloy" Loyzaga for Sports; Gregorio S. Oca for Business and Socio-Civic Responsibility; Preciosa S. Soliven for Education; Wilson Tieng for Film and Entertainment Entrepreneurship; and Fernando Zialcita for Anthropology and Cultural Heritage.
The awards criteria and the point equivalents are as follows: Service to the City of Manila and/or the nation (55 points); Outstanding performance in their respective fields of endeavor (25 points); Proven leadership, including moral rectitude, probity, and pioneering spirit (15 points); and other qualities (5 points).
Last years Outstanding Manilans were Arnold Clavio for Broadcasting; Hon. Justice Renato C. Corona for Law and Judiciary; Atty. Lorena Dela Cruz-Lee for Youth Development and Leadership; Cecile Guidote-Alvarez for Arts and Culture; Doris Magsaysay-Ho for Business and Environmental Cultural Advocacy; Jake Maderazo for Radio/ TV News and Current Affairs Management; Cecilio Kwok Pedro for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Humanitarian Service; Rosa Rosal for Civic Leadership; Dr. Wilfrido V. Villacorta Education and Diplomacy; and Myrna T. Yao Advocacy for Women.
Those chosen by the screening committee as this years Outstanding Manilans have to be personally present to accept their awards during the awarding ceremony.
