The Muntinlupa City government has allocated some P5 million for repairs of comfort rooms in around 19 public schools in the city. City Engineer Vic Navarro said the repairs are part of the program to renovate several school facilities to better serve the students who just started attending classes.
Navarro said toilets in 17 primary and two secondary schools are now undergoing renovation.
"An inspection was conducted earlier in several of the citys schools and we have observed that the comfort rooms should be among those prioritized by the city government so that the needs of these students are immediately addressed," he said.
The local official pointed out that water pipes are being repaired so that there will be no problem in water supply. "Faucets, sinks and door locks will also have to be replaced while the walls will be repainted."
Navarro said the repair team is working double time to finish refurbishing the comfort rooms. Construction of three-story building with 34 classrooms in Barangay Bayanan is also ongoing.
Navarro said the new structure is, in fact, an "extension" of the Bayanan Elementary School. It will reportedly be called Bayanan Elementary School-Unit I. The city government has set aside P50 million for the construction of the new school building to accommodate the growing number of public grade school students in the city. Rhodina Villanueva
