Fire razes 50 railway houses

Some 50 houses were razed resulting in an undetermined number of injuries in a three-hour fire that hit raildwellers in Caloocan City yesterday.

The fire was initially blamed on faulty wiring.

Arson investigators said some 150 families were rendered homeless in the fire incident.

The fire allegedly started at the house on Galauran street, 7th Avenue, Caloocan City.

Investigation showed the fire broke out at around 12:45 p.m. when thick smoke billowed from one of the rooms in the Garcia family’s house.

Minutes later, the fire spread to the adjacent houses until it reached to the other street fanned by strong winds.

Firefighters had a difficult time due to the narrow alleys prompting them to ask help from the residents, who determinedly passed buckets of water in a long line in a brave attempt to douse the fire before it could reach their own houses.

The fire was controlled at around 3:15 p.m. with no reports of anyone killed in the incident.

The identity of those injured and later taken to undisclosed hospitals were not immediately available.

Damage is still being determined by fire authorities. – Jerry Botial
