Navotas fisherman dies in blast

-
A defective gas tank that exploded killed a 34-year-old fisherman at sea the other day in Navotas, authorities reported yesterday.

Superintendent Genesis Tolejano, town police chief, said Esteban Obzunar, 34, fisherman, and a resident of Bagong Silang street, San Jose, Navotas was found dead by colleagues in territorial waters off the Navotas coast.

Records showed the victim was last seen around noon when he came home for lunch and later went back to tending their mussel pond.

An LPG tank on board his boat could have caused the alleged explosion, probers said.

Obzunar’s mangled body was found floating in waters near Bagong Silang, San Jose, Navotas by a certain Clarissa Ponce, 21.

The body of the victim was brought to Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for autopsy. — Jerry Botial, Zsarina Salazar
