150 cops to secure LRT2

- Non Alquitran -
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) yesterday deployed 150 policemen to secure 10 stations of the Light Railway Transit 2 (LRT2) after personnel of a security agency left their posts.

"It is still our obligation to see to it that a major infrastructure would not be held vulnerable to criminal or terrorist attacks. So, I deployed our troops to secure the mass transport system," said Querol in an interview.

The 150 policemen were from the NCRPO’s Regional Special Action Unit (RSAU) under Superintendent Roberto Villanueva.

The policemen would search bags, backpacks and personal belongings of LRT2 commuters.

Querol explained that there is an ongoing legal battle over the continued stay of guards from the security agency securing LRT2.

A judge issued a temporary restraining order (TRO), prompting the guards to leave their posts last Tuesday.

In an urgent motion, Variance Protective and Security Agency, however, asked Judge Pedro Gutierrez of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 119 to inhibit from the case.

Through its counsel, Gilbert Berjamin of the Chuidian Law Office, the agency said Gutierrez has already prejudged the case when it issued the TRO even on the basis of unproven allegations.
