Nephew of police general shot dead by cop

A member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) of the Eastern Police District (EPD) shot dead a nephew of a police general and wounded his companion yesterday.

PO1 Danile Marna, 29, invoked self-defense when he shot dead Rogelio Ticman, 40, a resident of Dodge City in Barangay Sagad.

Senior Superintendent Romeo Abaring, Pasig City police chief, said Ticman is a nephew of Chief Superintendent Luizo Ticman, assigned at Camp Crame.

Abaring said Marna and his wife were walking along Dodge City at about 8:20 a.m. when the cop noticed somebody closely following them. Marna and his wife were out to pick up their vehicle parked at a nearby gas station. The cop was on his way to work.

But to Marna’s surprise, the man, who was believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs, allegedly kicked him and challenged him to a fistfight.

Abaring said Marna introduced himself as a police officer and a SWAT member but the man ignored him and attacked him with fist blows in the head and body. Several other men, including Ticman and Nestor Servida, 34, arrived shortly and took turns hitting him.

To defend himself, Marna opened fire at his attackers, hitting Ticman in the abdomen and Servida in the left leg. — Non Alquitran
