Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar exhorted city residents to help the city government in its clean-up campaign even after the celebration of Earth Day.
Las Piñas has been adjudged as Metro Manilas Cleanest and Greenest for three consecutive years (1997-1999) and the first local government unit to receive the prestigious United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) award given during the 2000 World Earth Day celebration held in Adelaide, Australia.
Aguilar reiterated her call to all the city residents to segregate and dispose properly their garbage to lessen the volume of garbage collected daily.
"As the cleanest and greenest city, we should sustain our effort in protecting our environment and in cleaning up our community every day and not only during Earth Day celebrations," Aguilar stressed.
The mayor also urged the citys Environment and Sanitation Council to step up its garbage collection efforts by dispatching the 60 compactor garbage trucks and 10 dump trucks in all barangays and villages daily.
Aguilar also said that the 700 Kaagapay sa Kalinisan volunteers will also be mobilized for the clean-up activity to assist various homeowners associations in the citywide clean-up drive.
Declogging of canals and desilting of creeks will also be conducted by the city engineering department as part of their participation in the campaign.
Various homeowners associations and all the barangay captains have already pledged full support for the campaign.
