QC to hold Labor Day job fair

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. urged city residents to take advantage of an all-day mega job fair at City Hall on Labor Day.

The job fair, which is expected to attract 4,000 job applicants is being sponsored by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in coordination with the city government, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

Ignacio Santos Diaz, city industrial relations office chief, said 100 local firms and 50 overseas recruitment agencies are set to participate in the job fair, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pre—employment document processing will be made available to jobseekers during the activity.

Coinciding with the mega job fair will be a livelihood trade fair to showcase the programs of difference government agencies.

The National Food Authority (NFA) will also be deploying rolling stores during the event to sell low-priced basic commodities, including rice, sugar, and coffee.

The Belmonte administration continues to intensify efforts in providing gainful employment opportunities to city residents with the holding of regular job fairs at the barangay level.

As of last month, the city industrial relations office has reported some 3,404 registered applicants for its employment program, with 608 now gainfully employed. Perseus Echeminada
