Police recover P4 million worth of stolen steel plates

The swift response of police operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) led to the recovery of P4 million worth of steel plates earlier stolen at a construction firm in Quezon City.

The Quezon City Police District will robbery charges against two Caloocan City policemen allegedly involved in the case.

Superintendent Nelson Yabut, chief of the CIDG’s Research Analysis and Technical Support, has tapped the assistance of the Baler, Quezon City police station under Superintendent Raul Petrasanta after receiving reports of the stolen cargo.

The truck, which was loaded with several steel plates, was to deliver the cargo at the Power Construction warehouse on Judge Luna street in Quezon City it was hijacked by several armed men before reaching its destination

The driver of the truck, Rogelio Fernandez, reported that he was blindfolded by the armed suspects after they boarded his truck at around 5 a.m. He was then dropped off somewhere along 8th Avenue in Caloocan City.

Follow-up operations of the CIDG and the QCPD operatives led to the recovery of the hijacked cargo at a warehouse on M.H. del Pilar street along 2nd Avenue in Caloocan City.

One Bramwel Ramos, the warehouse caretaker, was arrested by operatives.

At the police station, Ramos identified two alleged Caloocan City policemen and an unnamed civilian as the persons who entrusted the hijacked cargo to him, promising him a commission after the sale of the steel plates.

Ramos named the alleged policemen as "Iral" and "Ronquillo." The QCPD shall file appropriate charges to the suspects.

Power Construction officials also commended the assistance of operatives of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines led by Capt. Roy Telan for their support to the police units which led to the early recovery of the hijacked cargo.

Meanwhile, Yabut said an examiner of the National Police Commission (Napolcom), who was arrested by the CIDG for extortion, is now also facing administrative charges.

Aside from criminal charges, Carmen Reboredo, 56, a fiscal examiner assigned at the Napolcom’s Finance Service Division, was administratively charged yesterday.
