PNP chief feeds 500 street kids

- Pete Laude -
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Arturo Lomibao, in an effort to bring the police closer to the people, led yesterday a supplemental feeding activity for some 500 street children in the Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) area.

Lomibao arrived at around 10:50 a.m. at the Malabon City amphitheater where he was welcomed by PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao, Northern Police District director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil and Malabon police chief Senior Superintendent Moises Guevarra.

Lomibao also witnessed a simple turnover ceremony of 50 mountain bikes for the local police bike patrol unit donated by Mayor Canuto "Tito" Oreta.

Some 150 street kids were served "lugaw" and sandwhiches.

Lomibao then proceeded to Valenzuela City for another feeding program.

Early in the morning, police officials, led by Batoil, held a Mass at the NPD compound in celebration of Easter Sunday.

A supplemental feeding was also held at the NPD headquarters for more than 100 street kids, who were treated with bags of candies after their meal.

Bataoil said that the project aims not only to bridge the gap between the police and the public, but also serve as a crime prevention activity.

"Apart from bringing the cops closer to the residents, the activity would also serve as a crime deterrent for people especially these children when they grow up would think twice before committing a crime knowing that they are friends of the police," he said.

The same supplemental feeding program, dubbed as Lugaw ni Lomibao para sa mga Batang Ligaw, was also held at the Caloocan City police station and at the Navotas police station.
