Waste segregation goes full blast in Muntinlupa

The Muntinlupa government’s Environmental Sanitation Center (ESC) will be fully implementing its waste segregation project at all the city’s subdivisions starting April.

Antonio Ponciano of the ESC said that in line with the project, they will issue notices and leaflets on the "no segregation, no collection" policy of the city.

He said citation tickets will be issued to homeowners that will violation the policy.

"Fines, community service hours and possible criminal liabilities will be slapped on homeowners who habitually neglect the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes," Ponciano said.

He pointed out that they will involve the participation of roving garbage collectors as well as display campaign streamers on trucks to inform people of the new policy on garbage collection.

There are 80 subdivisions in Muntinlupa City.

The city’s Public Information Office said only 24 subdivisions have been strictly following the law of waste segregation in the city.

Villages in Barangay Ayala-Alabang have their its own total waste management projects.

Ponciano added that trolley bins to be used in garbage collection are also being sent to inaccessible areas in the city, especially along the stretch of the PNR tracks. — Rhodina Villanueva
