Drug charges filed vs Jordanian detainee

- Rhodina Villanueva -
Charges were filed against a Jordanian national detained at the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP) after he was caught in possession of 29 sachets of dried marijuana leaves.

Senior Police Officer 1 Benjie Madriaga of the Muntinlupa Drug Enforcement Unit (MDEU) said they filed charges of violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, against 48-year-old Ozama Ashoor after results of the laboratory tests conducted confirmed that the items seized from him were illegal drugs.

During a routine inspection at the NBP’s maximum security compound last Tuesday, Ashoor was subjected to body search after the prison guards noticed that he was acting strangely.

Prison Guard 1 Roel Cardona said they found Ashoor hiding some 22 sachets of dried marijuana leaves in his clothes.

NBP Supt. Juanito Leopando said another inspection was conducted at Ashoor’s room. The guards found an additional seven sachets of dried marijuana leaves.

The confiscated items were forwarded by the NBP to the MDEU and submitted for laboratory tests at the SPD.
