Truck driver in Razon hit-and-run yields

- Perseus Echeminada -
The driver of a truck, which was allegedly involved in a vehicular accident that killed the 29-year son of former actor now Mandaluyong Councilor Darius Razon, surrendered to police yesterday.

Inspector Alejandrito Tablazon, chief of the Quezon City Police District traffic enforcement office said Leones Palisado showed up at Camp Karingal at 3 p.m. yesterday.

Tablazon said the driver denied his truck sideswiped the car carrying Denver Razon, but admitted he witnessed the accident.

The driver said the Honda City hit a concrete post while trying to overtake him on Araneta Avenue at 1 a.m. last Wednesday.

"The truck is now in our custody and it is neither damaged nor bears marks of a collision," Tablazon said.

He said, however, the investigation will continue and the truck driver will be subjected to inquest proceedings before the city prosecutor’s office.

Earlier, Tablazon and his men recovered the Isuzu 10-wheeler truck loaded with fertilizer at a compound in Bacood, Sta. Mesa.

Bayani Padilla, the owner of the truck, said he would cooperate fully with police and promised to turn over the driver.

In a TV interview, Padilla said the driver told him that the car suddenly overtook him, but lost control and slammed into a concrete electric post on the opposite lane of Araneta Avenue.

Initial police reports said Denver Razon was riding with friend Maria Bustillos on their way home from a wake when the cargo truck sideswiped their blue Honda City (WAJ-920).

The impact reportedly sent the car crashing into a Meralco post and the steel gate of a restaurant along Araneta.

Razon was pronounced dead upon arrival at the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital on Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City.

Bustillos survived the accident and received treatment at the Lourdes Hospital.
