Alcuaz, who is known to be a close supporter of the late Fernando Poe Jr., finally signed the release order handed down by Branch 91 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court after a "consultation" with friends and supporters who gathered outside the warrant and subpoena section of the Quezon City Police District.
The opposition leader was arrested the other day by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Lita Tolentino-Genilo of Branch 92 of the Quezon City RTC for a pending case filed by the PCSO against him for an unreturned service vehicle.
Actor Rez Cortez, a close FPJ supporter, denied yesterday that their group paid the cash bond for Alcuaz.
The former PCSO director earlier said he would not pay the recommended bail and expressed willingness to be transferred to the Quezon City jail "so that he can make the inmates aware of the lack of government support."
"Kung gusto ng gobyerno sila ang magbayad ng piyansa ko, dahil mas magastos para sa kanila (If the government wants, they can pay for my bail bond because it is more expensive for them) to continue to hold me in detention," he said.
Alcuazs friends and supporters launched a fund drive to raise P40,000 for his bail but collection fell short of the required amount. They learned that someone who was only identified as "Manang Glo" came to the court and paid the full amount for Alcuazs temporary liberty pending resolution of his case.
But a source said it was indeed groups identified with Poe that paid Alcuazs bail bond.
