‘Double red alert’ at NAIA

While operations remained normal at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s passenger terminals yesterday, security forces observed a "double red alert" the entire day, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

Retired Brig. Gen. Angel Atutubo, MIAA assistant general manager for security and emergency services, said that the high alert level, the highest among all alert levels, was being observed to ensure that there would be no disruptions in their operations.

"Our operations have remained normal the whole day and we want it to stay that way so we are remaining on double alert mode," Atutubo told The Star.

It was learned that groups of Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group Special Operations Unit operatives had been stationed around the two main entry checkpoints going into the NAIA complex to complement the ordinary deployment of security guards and MIAA Airport Police Department around the airport.

Atutubo also noted that there were no unusual increase in the number of departures among foreigners out of the country as a result of the political events that transpired early yesterday.

"The departures was the normal number that we see everyday," Atutubo said.

It was learned that the "double red alert" status of security will remain until the political situation normalizes.

"Pag nagnormalize na siguro, back to ordinary tight security na kami," Atutubo said.
