M’luyong police station named best in NCR

The Mandaluyong City police station bagged the Best Police Station award of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in 2005, Metro police chief Vidal Querol announced yesterday.

Querol said the station earned the nod of the NCRPO’s awards committee because of its "over-all impact on the community and the public."

Querol and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Arturo Lomibao will present the award to Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, Mandaluyong police chief, during simple ceremonies today at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

It would be a grandslam of sorts for Velasquez as his station was named the best in crime responding under the Patrol 117 program and is set to receive the Cavalier Award for police operations from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) on Feb. 18 in Baguio City.

Querol also announced that the Southern Police District (SPD) under Chief Superintendent Wilfredo Garcia, ran away with the Best Police District award.

It was initially reported that the Manila Police District (MPD) won the best district award. The NCRPO said there was a printing error in the program that came with invitations sent to officials.

Quezon City Police Station 7 in Cubao, headed by Superintendent Bernabe Balba, bagged the Best Numbered Police Station and the Women and Children Protection Desk awards.

Senior Superintendent Jose Gentiles, intelligence chief of the SPD, was named top Senior Police Commissioned Officer for Administration and Superintendent Ronald Gentiles, Parañaque City police chief, was top Police Commissioned Officer for Operations.

Chief Inspector Alejandro Yanquiling, Senior Inspector Teresita Lim and PO2 Donny Francisco, all from the MPD, were named Junior Police Commissioner Officer, Policewoman of the Year and Junior Police Non-Commissioned Officer, respectively.

SPO1 Pablo Selloriquez, of the Eastern Police District (EPD), was adjudged top Senior Police Non-Commissioned Officer while Carina Nicandro was named Non-Uniformed Personnel of the Year.

The Regional Special Action Unit and the National Capital Region Training School (NCRTS) were given special unit awards.

To be handed the B/Gen. Ricardo Papa Sr. award for gallantry in action are PO3 Joel Borda, of the Northern Police District (NPD); PO3 Disilito Custodio of the EPD; and PO2 Cesar Collado and PO2 Jon-Jon Jano of the QCPD. Another QCPD officer, PO2 Dino Portillo, will be given the same award posthumously.

To receive the Col. Robustiano Javier award for honesty are Senior Inspector Dominador Arevalo Jr., of the MPD and PO1 Guiama Ibrahim, of the NPD.

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte will lead some 27 individuals and organizations that will receive plaques of appreciation and special awards for the support they extended to the NCRPO’s anti-crime and anti-terrorist effort last year.
