University of Makati (Umak) president Tomas Lopez said the registration period will run for a month to give everyone a chance to file for application in one of the best government-owned colleges in the country.
"Applicants are advised to proceed to the Guidance and Admission Office," he said.
Lopez disclosed that the College of Nursing, which is run in partnership with the Systems Technology Institute (STI) Educational Group Services, will also be accepting new students.
According to him, a College Aptitude Test (CAT) to determine the course that will be appropriate to the abilities and preferences of individual students will be given on March 7, 11, 14, 17, 21, 25, 28 and 31, 2006.
"The test results will be released in April. Applicants will be charged a registration fee of up to P30. For the nursing course program, the fee is P350," Lopez said.
Cipriano Guarin, head of Guidance and Admission office, said applicants also need to bring voters ID of the parents or a certification from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that the applicant is a bonafide resident of Makati.
Appllicants will likewise be required to present their Form 138 and certificate of good moral character as well as two ID pictures .
Guarin noted that except in the College of Nursing, students who are Makati residents will pay a tuition fee of only P1,000 per semester and some miscellaneous fees.
Non-Makati residents who want to study in Umak will not be turned down but will pay a tuition fee of P3,000.
Umak holds the distinction of being the first city-owned university to implement a hands-on training program.
Aside from Nursing, Umak also offers courses in Public Administration, Computer Science, Education, Business Administration, Performing & Digital Arts, Arts and Science, Technology Management, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Development Center (PERSDC).
Applicants may also enroll in two- and one-year programs on architectural drafting, electronics, commercial arts, refrigeration, and airconditioning, heavy equipment technology, diesel mechanics, electrical building wiring and automotive mechanics. Michael Punongbayan
