LTO collects P5.8 M in fines

-
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced yesterday it has collected a total of P5.8 million in revenues from fines collected from traffic violators in December 2005.

Records from the LTO, showed the agency collected the amount in fines for violation of the Anti-Overloading Law, Seat Belts Use Act, Anti-Smoke Belching Law and other traffic violations.

In a report submitted to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), the LTO Statistics Section-Management Information Division said the agency earned P2.5 million alone from fines of 6,552 violators of the Anti-Overloading Law.

They said the agency also collected some P3.3 million from the combined penalties of 794 violators of Republic Act 8750, or the Seat Belts Use Act; and 794 violators of the Anti-Smoke Belching Law and other traffic violations.

Pacita Polig, LTO Clearance and Custodial Center chief, reported that the agency’s revenue usually increases during December due to the high number of trucks and vans delivering goods during the holiday season. Sandy Araneta
