Deeper probe on Commonwealth market grenade blast underway

-
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is looking deeper into the grenade explosion at the Commonwealth Market over the weekend.

QCPD Station 6 commander Col. Julius Abanes said investigators would conduct further investigation on the incident.

Police initially said the incident could be a result of a tenant-management dispute.

"We are not closing this case just yet even if our assumption is that it was caused by a tenant- management rift," Abanes said. "We have yet to make arrests."

According to Abanes, the initial evidence and information gathered by police showed that the grenade blast was aimed at pressuring the management of the Commonwealth Market to relinguish control of the market to the tenants.

He noted that the government has just turned over the management of the market to 3A Company and its administrator, Willy Gutierrez.

A hand grenade exploded at around 3 a.m. Saturday at the roof of the market causing minor damage.

Fortunately, no one was hurt or injured as a result of the blast. — Katherine Adraneda
