GMA, Roh to lead inauguration of RP-Korea IT Center in QC

President Arroyo and South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun will inaugurate tomorrow the US$4.3-million Korea-Philippines Information Technology Center (KPITC) at the Quezon City Polytechnic University compound in Novaliches Quezon City.

Heads of both Philippine and Korean government agencies will be attending the unveiling of the new facility.

The modern IT training center was established following an agreement forged during the June 2003 state visit of President Arroyo in South Korea.

Under the agreement, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on behalf of the Korean government, will provide $4.3 million for the development of the KPITC in the Philippines.

The Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Quezon City government shall co-manage the operations of the IT Center through a governing board to be composed of the director general of TESDA as the chairperson and Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and a representative of the IT sector as co-chairpersons.

The governing board has agreed on the following IT course offerings for the center: animation, graphic design, system analysis and design, network management, web development and manpower and computer hardware maintenance.

Belmonte will deliver the welcome remarks while TESDA director general Augusto Syjuco will deliver the KPITC milestones. – Perseus Echeminada
