3 dump trucks collide in Makati: 1 dead, 3 hurt

Three dump trucks figured in a collision along C-5 Road in Makati City early yesterday, leaving one person dead and three others hurt .
The fatality, identified as Rey Mendoza Valencia, 22, was pinned inside the 10-wheeler Isuzu truck (XAT-798) he was driving and died on the spot.
Those injured were identified as Renante Gumapon, 25, Valencias passenger; Efren Esguerra, 45, the driver of the other Isuzu truck (CRW-394); and his passenger Roy Versoza, 25.
They were all rushed to the Ospital ng Makati where they were treated for minor wounds and checked for other injuries.
A traffic police report showed the incident happened at around 1:15 a.m. while a convoy of three dump trucks were traveling along the northbound lane of C-5 Road near the corner of Kalayaan Avenue.
Police said the second truck slammed hard into the rear of the lead truck after it suddenly stopped. The third truck was unable to break in time and rammed the middle truck.
Investigators are still trying to determine why the first truck sped off after the accident.
"Hindi pa namin alam bakit tumakas yung driver nung unang dump truck, we are still conducting a follow-up investigation," a Makati traffic policeman said.
He said the fatality and those injured shared the same address at in Bulaon, San Fernando, Pampanga. Police said this was probably the address of the company they work for.
Senior Police Officer 2 Orlando de Leon has been directed to handle the investigation of the case and search for the driver of the first truck.
In Parañaque City, an eight-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a speeding jeepney last Thursday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Oliver Olympo, a student and resident of Silverio Compound, Parañaque.
Olympo was declared dead on arrival at the Olivarez Hospital.
Police were able to arrest the driver of the jeepney, identified as 44-year-old Charlito Encabo, a resident of Tramo street, Barangay San Dionisio.
Police Officer 4 Reynaldo de la Peña of the Parañaque Police Traffic Enforcement Unit said the incident took place at around 12:30 p.m.
The jeepney (PWR-933) was allegedly speeding on Dr. A. Santos Avenue when it hit Olympo, who was standing on the sidewalk.
De la Peña said the vehicle dragged the body several meters.
