Indian nabbed for estafa

-
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested recently an Indian national wanted for estafa charges inside a nightclub in Caloocan City.

Johnny Chandumal, a Punjabi, was among those taken by NBI agents during a raid in a nightclub only to discover later that there was a standing warrant of arrest against him.

NBI Special Task Force chief Reynaldo Esmeralda said Chandumal allegedly issued bouncing cheques amounting to P.259 million to another Indian national, identified as Verhomal Mengrajani, in payment of garments he had purchased.

Authorities said they have been running after the suspect since 1998.

Mengrajani said Chandumal paid him two cheques amounting to P126,017 and P132,768 on Oct. 17, 1998 and Nov. 14, 1998, respectively.

He said both cheques did not have funds when he tried to encash them. — Edu Punay
