Police took custody yesterday of a 29-year-old Chinese national, the primary suspect in the slaying of a 22-year-old Filipina overseas performing artist, following his release from confinement at the Ospital ng Maynila.
Murder charges have been filed against Mark Wang, alias Wang Ning and Kent Huang, for allegedly beating to death Egyfil Shane Tiu inside his rented room in Sta. Ana, Manila last Friday.
According to Manila Police District homicide section chief Senior Inspector Dominador Arevalo Jr., Wang will remain in police custody while awaiting a commitment order from the court for his transfer to the Manila City Jail.
Wang was hospitalized after attempting to kill himself by drinking insecticide while under detention at the Sta. Ana police station last Friday.
Wang, a chef at a Chinese restaurant, could not recall how he committed the crime, claiming he was heavily intoxicated at that time. All he remembers is that he and Tiu had a bitter fight when the latter visited him.
The body of Tiu, the former live-in partner of Wang, was discovered inside a cabinet at the suspects rented room on Tejeron street, Sta. Ana.
She arrived in the country last Oct. 13 after completing a six-month contract as an entertainer in Japan.
