The Northern Police District (NPD) received six patrol cars from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) Friday.
The brand-new Toyota Innovas were personally presented to the NPD cops led by Chief Superintendent Raul Gonzales and Metro Manila police chief Director Vidal Querol by President Arroyo herself.
It was part of the Presidents Metro Pulis project, a Metro Manila-wide program that aims to increase police visibility and mobility.
The project also aims to boost the cops morale by providing them with high-quality facilities and equipment.
A transparent police outpost located at the intersection of C-4 Road and Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, a strategic area that connects the cities of Malabon and Caloocan and the coastal town of Navotas, was also formally opened last Friday.
The project, one of the 14 in the northern metropolis built by Pagcor, has an elevated floor and glass walls designed to give policemen better view of their surroundings.
"Its the first here in the northern part of Metro Manila. And with this, the President is expecting us to work even harder," Malabon police chief Superintendent Moises Guevarra said.
Pagcor chairman Efraim Genuino said that at least 200 more patrol vehicles would be distributed by his office to all police districts in Metro Manila in addition to the handheld radios earlier given to cops to improve police communication.
During the Presidents visit, the groundbreaking rites for the first Serbisyo Muna Center, a grocery store patterned after the National Food Authoritys Kadiwa in the 80s, was held at the Justice Compound on Sanciangco st. in Barangay Catmon.
The store will sell basic commodities such as rice and sugar at a much lower price to the people.
