Wayward truck sideswipes 2 women

- Pete Laude -
Two women were sideswiped by a wayward cargo truck yesterday morning in the coastal town of Navotas.

Julia Enrico, 22, and one Lady Barbo, 40, both residents of a squatters’ area on C-3 Road in Barangay North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN), are now confined at the Tondo Medical Center.

At around 10:30 a.m., the victims were walking along the C-3 Bridge on NBBN, when a speeding Mitsubishi Canter, with license plate XES-430, driven by Sulpicio Magandan, 42, a resident of Bustos, Bulacan, hit the two women. The driver lost control of his vehicle due to the sudden impact and hit the concrete railings of the bridge.

According to Enrico’s husband, Mark, 25, his wife is in critical condition due to head and body injuries. He is appealing to the truck driver for help in the hospitalization expenses.

SPO1 Ricardo Villanueva of the Northern District Traffic Enforcement Group (NDTEG) said that charges of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries and damage to property would be filed against the truck driver.

The C-3 Bridge, a major passage that connects Navotas and Caloocan City, is a critical area especially at night since it is also a crime prone.
