Mandaluyong launches search for top health center

Health centers rendering five-star quality service in the City of Mandaluyong can now look forward to accolades from no less than the local chief executive — a distinction for their exemplary service and a cash incentive as bonus for their hard-earned efforts.

Mandaluyong Mayor Neptali Gonzales will launch on Aug. 23 the first Search for Natatanging Barangay Health Center (NBHC) 2005 primarily to recognize the efficient and outstanding services of health centers in the city. The launch is part of the birthday week celebration of the local chief executive.

"Instead of accepting gifts, I would like to be the one to give gifts to my constituents on my birthday. This is my tribute to the unsung heroes of the health profession who are devoted to their duty of rendering selfless, quality service to the community," the mayor said.

Another priority project of Gonzales spearheaded by the Special Committee on Healthcare Delivery, led by Dr. Zaldy Carpezo, the search aims to further improve the quality and efficacy of public health services including the facilities, behavior and efficiency of the health care providers in delivering services to the community.

The awarding will be held monthly starting September for the best health center while after a year, the ultimate winner will be proclaimed "Natatanging Health Center ng Taon."

A special committee, composed of the head of the Committees in Healthcare Delivery, the Public Information Office, the Human Resource Department, and the City Health Department, is tasked to conduct the screening and evaluation through surprise inspections and validations of written reports submitted by the 26 health centers.

The search is a major part of the Alagang Health Center Program of the Gonzales administration. The program aims to highlight the many benefit that the citizenry of Mandaluyong has been reaping form the health centers in their barangays.

At the same time, it generates awareness on these benefits and services to those who are not familiar with it and encourages them to avail of these exclusive privileges granted to them by the local government.

Other activities during the Alagang Health Center campaign launch on Aug. 23 include a six-month feeding program form malnourished children, a whole-day bloodletting activity, and distribution of 300 free reading glasses to the elderly citizens of the city.
