QC hospital benefits from water project

After years of depending on an extraction system from a rapidly deteriorating deep well, the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) in Quezon City has finally been connected to a safe and affordable water supply, courtesy of the Quezon City government, Manila Water Co. Inc. and the Metro Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Manila Water president Antonio Aquino and Health Secretary Francisco Duque led the inauguration of the "Lingap Ospital "project at the EAMC grounds the other day.

The project, which involves changing of asbestos concrete pipes, the cleanup of hospital holding reservoirs and conducting regular water analysis, will benefit some 700 patients and over 1,300 employees of the medical facility.

"This is sort of pubic-private sector partnership that the local government of Quezon City encourages with companies like Manila Water to ensure that basic services such as water supply and sanitation reaches all constituents, particularly the less fortunate among us" Belmonte said.

The Lingap Ospital program is part of the city-wide program of the Department of Health, MWSS and Manila Water to connect all public hospitals, medical centers and community clinics in the east zone to expanding water service networks. – Perseus Echeminada
