A young businessman and his driver were killed while his wife was wounded in a foiled robbery attempt by two motorcycle-riding men in Marikina City yesterday.
Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, Marikina City police chief, said the fatalities were identified as Edward Young, 24 and his driver, Glenn Magbanua, 47.
Wounded was Youngs wife, Sarah, 21.
Young and Magbanua sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot. The wife was hit in the arm and is now being treated at an undisclosed hospital.
Gaerlan said the Youngs own a pharmacy store.
At about 2:45 p.m. yesterday, the couple and their driver went to withdraw P300,000 from a China Bank branch in Barangay Sta. Elena.
While on their way to deposit the money at another bank, the suspects, riding tandem on a motorcycle, attempted to block their white Mitsubishi L-300 on E. Santos Avenue in Barangay Concepcion 1.
At gunpoint, the suspects ordered the driver to stop the vehicle.
Magbanua, however, stepped on the accelerator, catching the suspects by surprise.
The suspects then fired at will at the vehicle, which came to a halt after traveling for several meters.
Witnesses said the suspects boarded their motorcycle and parked near the van before firing additional rounds at the occupants.
They escaped toward San Mateo, Rizal.
Gaerlan said the suspects failed to get the cash. Non Alquitran
