United opposition hits Malacañang for ‘confusing the public’

-
Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay of the United Opposition (Uno) accused Malacañang yesterday of trying to confuse the people.

President Arroyo and her supporters, he said, are doing everything to counter evidence of electoral fraud which the highest official of the land is being accused of.

"If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again," was Binay’s reaction to Malacañang’s latest move to discredit the controversial ‘Hello Garci!’ tapes.

Binay said Mrs. Arroyo’s tactics, which has so far been failing her, can be likened to a local prime time telenovela script.

Binay emphasized that the latest development on the issue — when Environment Secretary Mike Defensor claimed that the tapes were digitally altered — clearly reflect the administration’s self-contradictions and inconsistencies as it continues to fail in trying to quash evidence of electoral fraud and raises more questions than answers instead.

"This attempt to confuse the public only shows that it is the administration that is confused and at a total loss as to how to get out of the crisis," Binay said.Michael Punongbayan
