Caloocan-North’s most wanted falls

- Pete Laude -
Police arrested a notorious criminal after a week-long surveillance operation early morning yesterday in Caloocan City.

Superintendent Napoleon Cuaton, the city police detective chief, identified the suspect as Rommel Ligoyligoy, a resident of Package 8, Block 85, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Ligoyligoy, facing charges of double murder and frustrated murder in Caloocan courts, and robbery at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 220, is listed as the No. 1 wanted man of the Caloocan City-North police.

He was arrested at around 5 a.m. at his hiding place in Bagong Silang by joint elements of the Warrant Section and Sub-Station 10, led by Inspector Avelino Protacio III.

Meanwhile, the Caloocan City police also arrested another murder suspect in an operation Wednesday in Calbayog City.

Suspect Gregorio Monsanto was apprehended at his lair in Barangay Hiragaan, Calbayog City at around 9 p.m.

He was the prime suspect in the killing of businessman Reynaldo Balatbat on Nov. 15, 2003.

Cuaton said Monsanto waylaid Balatbat at 3rd Avenue corner Josefina street, Caloocan City and stabbed him to death.

He went into hiding after the incident.

After more than a year of evading authorities, the suspect was arrested by the Caloocan police by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Adoracion Angeles.
