6 Chinese nationals nabbed in drug raids

- Katherine Adraneda -
Police and anti-narcotics agents have arrested six Chinese nationals and seized some 65 kilos of a substance believed to be shabu as well as 500 kilos of ephedrine, a key ingredient in making the illegal drug, during simultaneous raids on three houses being used as "store rooms" by a drug syndicate.

Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Nicasio Radovan said the raid on the three houses was conducted in Baler and Barangay West Triangle by composite teams of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force of the Philippine National Police, QCPD, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Radovan said the operation, which started at 4 p.m. and ended at around 6 p.m., was an offshoot of intensive intelligence work and surveillance by police.

"This was a result of two months of surveillance and we intensified our operation against the group in the last two weeks," Radovan told The Star.

A house on Liwayway street, Barangay West Triangle yielded the largest contraband with 50 kilos of shabu and 500 kilos of ephedrine.

The house on Rest Haven street, Baler and Bulletin street, West Triangle yielded four kilos and 11 kilos of shabu, respectively.

No paraphernalia or equipment in making shabu was recovered from the three houses, the QCPD chief added.

Police identified the six arrested Chinese nationals as Oh Wen Che, 30; Wo Chad Sin, 39; Chong Men Cheng, 30; Hong Jae Chen, 31; Ho Jin Chen, 35; and Henry Tan Ang, 35.

They were arrested in the house on Rest Haven.
