Manila police seized some 1.5 kilos of shabu with a street value of P2 million in a drug buy-bust operation in Sampaloc, Manila over the weekend.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspected drug dealers.
Manila Police District (MPD) director Chief Superintendent Pedro Bulaong presented the two suspects, Abdulnassif Olama, 26, and Maila Olama, 28, to the media yesterday.
The two were nabbed by operatives of the MPDs District Anti-Illegal Drugs-Special Operations Task Group at around 8:30 a.m. last Saturday along España near Maceda street, Sampaloc, Bulaong said.
Prior to the drug bust, the MPD received verified information that a drug deal would take place at the corner of España and Maceda street, prompting anti-drugs operatives to conduct discreet surveillance of the area.
At the specified time, a maroon Honda Civic (UPT-687) was spotted with the two suspects on board.
One of the suspects sensed the presence of undercover cops and tried to dispose of a sealed plastic sachet, which when examined revealed a crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.
A further search on the car showed there were at least 29 plastic sachets containing shabu.
The driver of the vehicle, who was identified through his identification card as Gani Macadaya, managed to escape.
Bulaong said the successful operation of Manilas anti-drug operatives shows the MPD is now gearing up for a more determined battle against all forms of criminality, as part of its commitment to the programs of the Philippine National Police and the policies of Mayor Lito Atienza.
The two suspects are now detained at the MPD integrated jail, while charges of violation of the anti-drugs law are being prepared against them.
