Police to summon boss of cop killed last week
June 20, 2005 | 12:00am
Police will summon the superior officer of an operative of the Regional Special Action Unit (RSAU) who was found dead last week inside his own car in Parañaque City.
Superintendent Ronald Estilles, Parañaque City police chief, said the statement of Senior Inspector Ryan David may lead to the solution of the killing of PO1 Dennis Maligaya, 24.
"He was the last man who saw Maligaya alive so he might help us in solving the case," said Estilles.
Maligaya was found dead last Tuesday inside the trunk of his car, a blue Toyota Corolla with licence plate UHK-429, at the President Diosdao Macapagal Avenue, two-and-a-half hours after he asked Davids permission to retrieve his gun at the Station 4 of the Western Police District (WPD) in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc.
Superintendent Bernardo Diaz, Station 4 commander, said Maligaya failed to get his issued firearm, a caliber .9mm pistol.
"We are now establishing what happened from the time he left the office until he was found dead," said Estilles.
Maligaya entered the police service in 2003. He was living with his sister at Sisa St., in Sampaloc at the time of his death.
Police said Maligaya was summoned to pacify a trouble in their neighborhood two weeks ago and shot and wounded a certain Virgilio Ramirez and was arrested by Station 4 operatives.
However, Maligaya managed to settle the case with the Ramirez family and was released from jail. Estilles said his investigator the Ramirez family has denied in the cops murder.
Metro police chief Director Vidal Querol said Maligaya reported for work at the RSAU office at the Southern Police District (SPD) last Tuesday.
Querol said they are investigating reports that Maligaya and his fellow RSAU operatives were engaged in a drinking spree before he asked Davids permission to proceed to Station 4 at 8:30 p.m.
Chief Superintendent Ernesto Belen, director of the crime laboratory of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said Maligaya was shot twice in the body.
Belen said they are still lifting fingerprints and other evidence from Maligayas car to trace the suspects in his killing. Non Alquitran
