Belmonte signs side mirror ordinance

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has signed an ordinance prohibiting the sale and purchase of surplus side mirrors of unknown origin within the city.

Council majority leader Ariel Inton, author of the ordinance, said the measure was introduced in response to the rising number of incidents involving the theft of side mirrors from parked vehicles and later sold to car surplus parts stores.

"The regulation and prohibition would prevent, if not totally eradicate, the proliferation of stolen side mirrors," Inton said.

Under the ordinance, a person caught selling second hand side mirrors of unknown origin faces a maximum fine of P2,000 and a jail term of three months. Perseus Echeminada
