Declogging to reduce flooding in Las Piñas

Minimized flooding in flood-prone areas in Las Piñas City is expected following massive declogging and desilting operations conducted in preparation for the onset of the rainy season.

According to Mayor Mel Aguilar, except for some low-lying areas, flood-prone zones in the city have been cleared of obstructions.

At the same time, the mayor reiterated her appeal to residents for the total practice of waste segregation to help prevent clogging of drainage inlets and all waterways that cause flooding.

She rallied all officials in the city’s 20 barangays, to ensure that each household practices waste segregation which has been adopted part of the city’s clean and green agenda.

"We must all do our part in keeping our city clean, healthy, and flood-free, starting it in our own homes through proper disposal of garbage," Aguilar said.

The mayor enjoined residents to do their part in ensuring that drainage inlets or waterways in their neighborhood areas are not blocked and to immediately call the attention of the city engineer’s office for situations that entail major action.

She pointed out that water-borne diseases like the fatal leptospirosis, diarrhea, and other skin infections, can be avoided if everyone takes serious part in keeping the surroundings clean.

The mayor earlier ordered the engineering office to clear all water ducts or canals of debris and other obstructions. Heaps of refuse, mostly plastics and non-degradable junk, were extracted from the waterways.

Clearing and declogging operations started during the summer months and are still ongoing to ensure there are no obstructions in the waterways.
