5,000 jobs up for grabs

-
At least 5,000 jobs are now up for grabs for job seekers in Metro Manila.

Acting Labor Secretary Manuel Imson said 5,000 local and overseas jobs would be offered at a jobs fair to be held by the DOLE’s Metro Manila office in Rizal Park today.

"We are bringing together 30 local employers and 25 overseas employment agencies at the Rizal Park to facilitate jobs and skills matching for new graduates and other job seekers," Imson said.

Among opportunities available at the fair are for accounting assistants, accounting clerks, architects, cashiers, data encoders, drivers, marketing assistants, sales clerks, service crew and telephone operators.

Imson said the one-day jobs fair is part of the numerous activities prepared in commemoration of the country’s 107th Independence Day on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Imson reported that the over 500,000 Filipino were provided jobs in the first five months of the year, contrary to report that the government’s job generation program had only managed to produce 87,000 jobs so far.

Imson said data from the Bureau of Labor and Employment (BLES) showed that 173,222 were placed in local jobs aside from the 422,801 Filipino workers deployed to various jobs overseas. — Mayen Jaymalin
