Bogus cop nabbed

-
Intelligence operatives of the Central Police District (CPD) arrested the other night a 44-year-old jobless man for possession of an unlicensed gun and for posing as a police officer in La Loma Quezon City.

Chief Inspector Rodolfo Jaraza, chief of the CPD District Intelligence and Investigation Division, identified the fake policeman as Fernando Coronel, a resident of Novaliches.

Jaraza said Coronel, who was riding a motorcycle, was intercepted at 6 p.m. last Friday evening by police.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. earlier directed the CPD to intensify their campaign to neutralize street criminals in crime-prone areas of the city.

PO2 Romel Chicano, Ernesto Balbadera and Roberto Timor accosted the suspect who was acting suspiciously.

When frisked, the suspect yielded a caliber .38 revolver with ammunition. He introduced himself as a police officer, but failed to produce any police identification card.

Police investigators are now readying illegal possession of a firearm and usurpation of authority charges against the suspect. Perseus Echeminada
