1 dead, 2 hurt over garbage

A 36-year-old man died while two relatives were hurt in a feud over garbage that led to a 30-minute shootout in Caloocan City.

George Guevarra, of Phase 8B, Package 5, Block 76, Lot 7, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest.

Station Investigation and Detection Management Bureau (SIDMB) chief Superintendent Napoleon Cuaton identified the suspects as Pablo Auditor, 55, and sons Reyward, 23 and Rene Boy, 27, in the same neighborhood.

The suspects are now being held in custody by the police.

Still being hunted by the police for involvement in the incident are the victim’s relatives, identified as Dick Sorreda and his brother Marlon, 28.

It was gathered that the shooting broke out at around 11:45 p.m. Monday when Guevarra and the Sorredas allegedly went up to the Auditors in a bid to settle an old grudge over the disposal of garbage.

Pablo told investigators that the Guevarras were the first to shoot using a caliber .38 revolver. He said they were just trying to defend themselves when they returned fire.

The hostility between the two families allegedly stemmed from the Auditors’ penchant for throwing their garbage at a portion of the creek beside their respective homes near the Guevarras.

Recovered from the scene of the crime were a caliber .38 revolver, a hand grenade and bladed weapons.

Police are yet to determine the ownership of the weapons in their custody.
