Manila City Council endorses pedestrianization project

The Manila City Council, presided by President Pro-Tempore Mitch Cuna, passed by an overwhelming majority vote an ordinance endorsing Mayor Atienzas Teresa Pedestrianization Project in Sta. Mesa.
In approving the pedestrianization ordinance, the councilors thwarted an earlier attempt to derail the passage of the measure when Vice Mayor Danilo Lacuna adjourned the meeting without even calling a roll call, using as an excuse that the session hall was too hot.
"We proceeded with the session because the majority felt that our inconvenience was not enough reason for us not do to our jobs. We are working for the people and not for ourselves," Councilor Greco Belgica (6th district) said.
The councilors who stayed behind agreed to proceed with the scheduled session for the day in order to finish pending matters including the Teresa Pedestrianization Ordinance which was principally authored by Councilor Joey Uy, Majority Floor Leader Ernesto Dionisio and other 6th District Councilors Greco Belgica, Bonjay Isip-Garcia, Cassy Sison and Beth Rivera. The Teresa Pedestrianization Project has been hailed by residents in the area and students of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).
