Cops gun down jeepney robber

- Pete Laude -
Police shot dead a suspected jeepney robber and nabbed the slain suspect’s cohort during a highway robbery Friday in Caloocan City.

The fatality, identified only as Jojie, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body while his companion identified as Antonio Guevarra, 27, a resident of Bagong Silang, was immediately arrested.

One of the suspects’ victims, 21-year-old student Jennifer Ico, was stabbed in the right thigh by one of the robbers after she cried for help during the heist.

At around 3:15 p.m., a passenger jeepney driven by Crisanto Sagrado, 28, was traveling on Ilang-Ilang street in Area I, Camarin, Caloocan City, enroute to Fairview, Quezon City, when two of its passengers, armed with a bladed weapon and a handgun, announced a holdup.

While the suspects were divesting the passengers of their cash and valuables, Ico shouted for help prompting one of the armed men to stabbed her in the thigh.

The robbers hastily alighted from the jeepney but the patrolling cops from Sub-Station 4, led by PO2 Joseph Julao, chanced upon the fleeing robbers.

Armed with a caliber .38 revolver, Jojie tried to put up a fight, but the cops shot him dead.

Police recovered Jojie’s revolver loaded with three live bullets and a spent shell.

Guevarra was subsequently arrested when he ran back to the jeepney which they robbed.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nacu, 28, a liaison officer of Luzvic Manpower Agency, is now confined at the Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital after he was shot in the abdomen by two motorcycle riding robbers during a payroll robbery in Barangay 88 also in Caloocan City at around 9:30 a.m. yesterday.

Nacu was also aboard his motorcycle and was cruising on Tolentino street near Austria street in Barangay 88 when his path was blocked by the two armed suspects.

The robbers forcibly took from the victim his backpack containing P160,000, but Nacu resisted.

This prompted one of the suspects to shoot Nacu hitting him in the abdomen.

The robbers escaped with their loot. Police recovered from the crime scene two empty shells from a caliber .45 caliber pistol.
